Motion:

“That ICPA Qld works collaboratively with Universities, Education Queensland, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that Permission to Teach (PTT) teachers that are employed in rural and remote locations are given comprehensive and ongoing support to enable them to develop to their full potential and ultimately deliver the best educational opportunities to students.”

Explanation:

In recent years there has been an increased number of PTT Teachers engaged in Queensland schools. This introduction has greatly assisted in alleviating teaching staff shortages. Many of these PTT Teachers are currently teaching in rural and remote areas and stand-alone schools. The more remotely placed these teachers are, the less likely they are to be able to access face to face professional development or be supported by a diverse team of mentors. In the case of a small school, a PTT could be required to be mentored by one, already overburdened teaching Principal. The ongoing training and support of these PTT Teachers is imperative to the development and longevity of their careers, teacher retention, quality student outcomes and the integrity of the teaching profession at large. The responsibility lies with all stakeholders to ensure that comprehensive and ongoing support is delivered in a timely manner.
